This is an undescribed or unidentified species of the genus Nembrotha. I call it Nembrotha sp. 04, to distinguish it from other species of Nembrotha.
Nembrotha sp. 04 is chracterized by its black background colour with a blueish tinge, by pinkish/red spots, and by a diffuse pinkish/red marginal line at the anterior part of the mantle. The gills and the rhinophores are black, the elevated rhinophoral sheaths are black with a pinkish/red margin.
This specimen was was originally posted at these websites as Nembrotha sp. E  Genus: Bergh, 1877, I thought it might be a different species, now I think it is a variant of Nembrotha sp. 04
It is one of a group of similarly coloured species which are still a bit of a puzzle. There may be a number of species, or just some which are very variable in colour. Let me quote Bill Rudman:" There still seems to be some work needed on these red-spotted nembrothids."
This species was posted on 4 July 2003 at these websites as Nembrotha sp. D  Genus: Bergh, 1877, and changed on 21 October 2011 into
Nembrotha sp. 04  Genus: Bergh, 1877.
For some genera was the alphabet almost through. I had to change the distinguishing alphabetic character into a number. I hade chosen 2-digit numbers, even though '01' looks a little bit stupid, and now is only the genus italic written.
More information on Nembrotha sp. 04 as Nembrotha spp? are at Bill Rudman's Sea-Slug Forum!
