Gymnodoris impudica is characterized by its white body with large orange circular spots which are densely arranged and by the relatively small gills. The rhinophores are orange, the branched gills are white, orange edged .
The species of the genus Gymnodoris are carnivorous nudibranchs which feed on other sea slugs.
Pretty similar is:
Gymnodoris ceylonica which differs by red spots, by translucent white rhinophores with orange tips, and by simple gills, which are branched in Gymnodoris impudica.
This species was published on 15 June 2003 at these websites as Gymnodoris rubropapulosa (Bergh, 1905) [Trevelyana],
It was identified with its older name Gymnodoris impudica (Rüppell & Leuckart, 1828) by Yonow (2008), confirmed by Yonow (2011).
I know since a few days that Rüppell & Leuckart (1828 - 1830) is online, see reference. This text was published in 2 parts,
the pages 1 - 22 in 1828, and the pages 23 - 47 in 1830. Doris impudica appears on page/Seite 33 and on plate/Tafel X,
that is the year must be 1830.
I changed it on 9 January 2016 into Gymnodoris impudica (Rüppell & Leuckart, 1830) [Doris].
