Phestilla viei has been recently described, published on 8 May 2020. It is characterized by its brownish colour with lighter club-shaped tips of the cerata. The cerata are arranged in rows, densely packed together, mostly held laterally giving a very flattened appearance. First ceras (most anterodorsal) of each row held more upright, giving a horn-like appearance at regular intervals. The rhinophores are basally brownish, the outer half has a yellowish tinge. It feeds like all species of this genus on hard corals, but seems to be specialised on Pavona explanulata (Lamarck, 1816).
This species is as Phestilla sp. 2 in IPN page 372 and in Gosliner et al. (2015) page 357.
Derivatio nominis
Phestilla viei  Mehrotra, Caballer & Chavanich sp. nov. is named in honor of Mr. Vie Panyarachun for his years of facilitating citizen science and contributions in curating records of sea slug diversity in Thai waters, and his continued efforts as a marine naturalist.
This species was posted on 28 October 2016 at these websites as Phestilla sp. 02  Genus: Bergh, 1874,
Cella et al. (2016) moved it into the genus Tenellia  A. Costa, 1866 within the family Fionidae  J.E. Gray, 1857,
Korshunova et al. (2017) reinstated the genus Phestilla  Bergh, 1874 and reinstated the familiy Trinchesiidae  F. Nordsieck, 1972 with the inclusion of the genera Catriona, Diaphoreolis, Phestilla, Tenellia, and Trinchesia.
I changed it back into Phestilla sp. 02  Genus: Bergh, 1874 on 10 October 2017.
