Armina variolosa can be distinguished from other arminaceans by its orange colour, and by irregular rows of rounded tubercles each with a white apex, arranged in longitudinal riges. The rhinophores are orange/red with whitish apices. The wide foot has a white margin. The oral veil has the same colour as the body with a diffuse white margin.
This species was the "Opisthobranch of the Week" on Michel D. Miller's Slug Site. There are some pictures of this species from Osezaki, Japan online.
