Spinoaglaja orientalis is characterized by its dark green/brownish coloration with small opaque white spots, and three transverse white bars with orange spots, one bar in the middle, one on the head and one on the 'tail'. Bill Rudman writes on the Sea Slug Forum: "This rather elongate aglajid has anatomical characters which suggest it is neither a Philinopsis nor an Aglaja.", so he labels it Aglaja? orientalis.
Gosliner et al. (2008). place it on page 42 in the genus Aglaja.
This species was posted on 9 June 2010 at these websites as Aglaja orientalis  Baba, 1949,
Camacho-García et al. (2013) moved it to the genus Philinopsis  Pease, 1860.
I changed it on 6 September 2016 into Philinopsis orientalis (Baba, 1949) [Aglaja].
Zamora-Silva & Malaquias (2017) moved it to the genus Spinoaglaja  Ortea, Moro & Espinosa, 2007.
I changed it again on 13 February 2018 into Spinoaglaja orientalis (Baba, 1949) [Aglaja].
