Berthelinia sp. 01 is a sacoglossan of the family Juliidae  E. A. Smith, 1885, which includes the "bivalved sea-slugs" of the genera - sorted by name:
- Berthelinia  Crosse, 1875,
- Edenttellina  Gatliff & Gabriel, 1911, which is now accepted as Berthelinia  Crosse, 1875,
- Julia  Gould, 1862,
- Midorigai  Burn, 1960, which is now accepted as Berthelinia  Crosse, 1875,
- Prasina  Deshayes, 1863, which is now accepted as Julia  Gould, 1862,
- Tamanovalva  Kawaguti & Baba, 1959, which is now accepted as Berthelinia  Crosse, 1875.
The family Juliidae  E. A. Smith, 1885 is unique among gastropod mollusks in having clam-like shells into which the body can be completely withdrawn. Let me quote the Sea Slugs of Hawaii web site of Cory Pittman and Pauline Fiene: "They were first described as bivalves from fossil material and only recognized as gastropods when living animals were discovered in 1959."
The above pictures of Berthelinia sp. 01 were identified by Dr.Richard C. Willan, who writes (pers. comment): "This is a species of Berthelinia because the shell valves are thin, and flat, and transparent."
