Very similar is Okenia kondoi. They can be distinguished by the number of dorsal appendages: Okenia kondoi has four pairs, Okenia nakamotoensis has five pairs. It was described by Hamatani as Hopkinsia nakamotoensis, Gosliner (2004) proposed synonymising the genera Hopkinsia, Sakishimaia, and Hopkinsiella with Okenia. Reference: Gosliner, T. M.
