Nembrotha kubaryana is pretty variable in colour. It is black with green pustules, some specimens have also orange pustules, or green longitudinal ridges. There is a bright orange or red margin to the foot and orange or red pigment around the oral lappets and at the margin of the rhinophoral sheaths, in many specimens are orange/red spots near the 'tail'. The rhinophores and gills have orange markings or are green.
Nembrotha kubaryana is similar in size and colour to Nembrotha cristata, the main point of difference is the margin of the foot: green in N. cristata, red in N. kubaryana, and N. cristata lacks any red/orange colour on oral tentacles, gills, rhinophores, and 'tail'.
Nembrotha kubaryana feeds on the green compound ascidian Eudistoma olivaceum and other ascidians.
Pretty similar is also:
Nembrotha livingstonei which differs by a distinctive white cross-like mark between the rhinophores.
This species was posted on 29 June 2003 at these websites as Nembrotha kubaryana which is still the most common name of it.
Let me quote Pola et al. (2008):
"Bergh described Nembrotha nigerrima in 1877 from two different specimens collected at Palau and Cebu Island. In the same paper, Bergh described N. kubaryana also from Palau" ..."N. kubaryana is a junior synonym of N. nigerrima. Similar conclusions have already been presented by Yonow and Hayward (1991), who formally synonymised both names."
I changed it on 8 June 2011 into Nembrotha nigerrima  Bergh, 1877,
Yonow (2011) points out that Yonow & Hayward (1991) had selected Nembrotha kubaryana as the valid name.
I changed it on 11 January 2012 back into Nembrotha kubaryana  Bergh, 1877.
