Hypselodoris confetti is one of a number of species with a bluish background colour, short dark blue lines or spots and yellow or orange spots.
Hypselodoris confetti is characterized by the triangular gills, edged in deep blue (2 thin lines) with with three to five yellow spots on the outer face, and diffuse red tips. The rhinophore clubs are bright red, the bases of the rhinophores are deep purple, extending onto the basal half of the clubs.
Etymology:
Hypselodoris confetti comes from the Italian word confetti that means sweets, referring to the multicoloured sweets that were thrown to people at Italian carnivals. In the 19th century it was used to refer to brightly coloured pieces of paper tossed out during parades. This species is marked with bright blue, yellow and black spots resembling confetti.
Pretty similar are:
Hypselodoris infucata which has simple gills, edged in red/brown (1 broad line), and lacks the yellow spots, and
Hypselodoris roo which has also triangular gills, but edged in red/brown, and white and red markings on the outer face.
This species was misidentified and posted on 20 August 2011 at these websites as Hypselodoris kanga  Rudman, 1977.
Epstein et al. (2018) restricted Hypselodoris kanga  Rudman, 1977 to the Indian Ocean,
and described the very similar species Hypselodoris confetti  Gosliner & R.F. Johnson, 2018 and Hypselodoris roo  Gosliner & R.F. Johnson, 2018.
I changed it on 19 September 2018 into Hypselodoris confetti  Gosliner & R.F. Johnson, 2018.
This picture shows 2 Hypselodoris roo and 1 Hypselodoris confetti close together.
