Pretty similar is: Ardeadoris rubroannulata which lacks the thin white marginal band and differs by a thin red line along the outer edge of the broad white submarginal band, it also lacks the broad opaque white outer edge to the gills. This species was posted on 8 December 2011 at these websites as Glossodoris cruenta Rudman, 1986, R.F. Johnson & Gosliner (2012) moved it to the genus Ardeadoris Rudman, 1984.
