This picture of two 17 - 18 mm specimens was posted on 21 July 2011 as Cuthona sp. E Genus: Alder & Hancock, 1855,
then changed into Trinchesia sp. 05 Genus: von Ihering, 1879, I thought they might be adults, and the other specimens juveniles, because the colour pattern of the cerata, rhinophores, and oral tentacles is very similar. Gordon Tillen sent on 14 September 2011 the picture of another specimen, which is for sure the same species. Now I think they are distinct species, so I keep them seperate.
Pretty similar at least with blue and yellow on the head are:
Trinchesia sp. 05 which differs by the bluish-white body, by the medial yellowish line, and by the cerata, which lack the two swellings,
Abronica sp. 01 which differs by "V"shaped blue and yellow on the head, and
Trinchesia sp. 13 which differs by red spots on the cerata
Cella et al. (2016) restricted the genus Cuthona Alder & Hancock, 1855 to the type species, C. nana (Alder & Hancock, 1842) just like Miller (2004) did, and synonymised the genera
- Catriona Winckworth, 1941,
- Phestilla Bergh, 1874,
- Cuthona Alder & Hancock, 1855 (partim), and
- Trinchesia Ihering, 1879
with Tenellia A. Costa, 1866 in the Family Fionidae J.E. Gray, 1857.
I moved on 3 January 2017 Trinchesia sp. 23 Genus: von Ihering, 1879 to the Genus Tenellia A. Costa, 1866.
