Phyllodesmium lizardense is characterized by its translucent white/tan colour. "The cerata are an opaque to creamish white, with patches of yellow brown between the opaque white ridges and pustules." Burghardt et al. (2008), giving the appearance of several cream longitudinal bands on the cerata, branching near the apices. The apices of the cerata are curved.
It has zooxanthellae, it is like other members of the genus Phyllodesmium what Bill Rudman calls "Solar-powered Sea Slugs".
This species was described as Phyllodesmium lizardensis I changed the ending of the specific name accoring to WoRMS.
Pretty similar are at least 4 " Xenia Mimics":
Phyllodesmium crypticum which has very nodulose cerata, especially along the edges,
Phyllodesmium jakobsenae which has flattened, slightly coiled cerata with brownish pigment along the edges near the tip (1 cream longitudinal band)
Phyllodesmium hyalinum which differs by white 'frosting' on the cerata,
Phyllodesmium sp. 04 which differs by rounded, elongate cerata with several longitudinal lines of brown pigmentation, and
Phyllodesmium sp. 08 on MEDSLUGS on which Ingo Burghardt writes "the brownish pigments on the cerata are arranged different, the cerata are thin and also arranged different from Phyllodesmium jakobsenae."
Marli Wakeling has a picture of a similar specimen on her website, no location given,
pictures of Phyllodesmium lizardense from the type localty, the Lizard Island, Australia are here.
The specimen #2 was identified by Dr. Richard C. Willan, the specimen #3 was misidentified and posted on 26 November 2014 at these websites
as Phyllodesmium hyalinum  Ehrenberg, 1831.
