Janolus tricellariodes is characterized by the colour of the cerata and the rhinophores: pale yellowish/cream with a bright blue tip and a purple subapical band, and opaque white specks and warts. The caruncle is according to Pola, Hallas & Gosliner (2019) opaque white.
This species is Janolus sp. 1 in IPN at page 317.
Pretty similar are:
Janolus sp. 01 which differs by the rhinophores: brown with white tips, and the cerata: yellow subapical ring
Janolus savinkini which has no opaque white spots on the cerata and rhinophores
Janolus flavoanulatus which differs by the rhinophores: blueish tinge with darker apices, and by the cerata: translucent with a diffuse yellowish ring below the purple ring, and lacks the opaque white spots on the cerata and rhinophores.
Janolus sp. 06 which differs by an orange caruncle and lacks the opaque white spots on the cerata and rhinophores.
this species was posted on 17 February 2011 at these websites as Janolus sp. C  Genus: Bergh, 1884, and changed
on 12 September 2011 into Janolus sp. 03  Genus: Bergh, 1884.
For some genera, such as Trinchesia was the alphabet almost through. I had to change the distinguishing alphabetic character into a number. I have chosen 2-digit numbers, even though '01' looks a little bit stupid, and now is only the genus italic written.
