Dermatobranchus funiculus has distinctive glands at the mantle margin, looking like yellowish pimples, and a distinctive orange-red margin of the oral veil. It can be distinguished from other arminaceans by the background colour of the dorsum and the dorsal ridges, which is white to bluish or orange, and by its broad depressions between the ridges, which are covered with minute brown spots and have diffuse brown lines at their margins. There is one depression longitudinal on the median line, the other depressions angle towards the mantle margin along the sides of the notum on either side of the median depression. The oral veil is white with a broad orange submarginal band, at the margin is a thin reddish-brown line. The rhinophores bear longitudinal perfoliations, are white at the base, the main part is brownish-orange, the margins of the lamellae and the apices are opaque white.
This species was posted on 18 February 2011 at these websites as Dermatobranchus sp. J  Genus: van Hasselt, 1824,
and changed on 29 July 2011 into Dermatobranchus sp. 10  Genus: van Hasselt, 1824.
Its appearance is very variable, that is why it is 3 times in IPN:
as Dermatobranchus sp. 9 at page 311,
as Dermatobranchus sp. 18 at page 314, and
as Dermatobranchus sp. 21 at page 315 (very similar to the above pictures)
